Hello and welcome to Thanks for Listening! A special-edition audio series that covers fashion, culture, and a third fun thing. I’ll post short episodes once a month—5 to 10 minutes long—and the occasional long-form interview. However, you can always expect creative storytelling and an extra place to share my thoughts.
Professional organizers break down our daily habits into two categories of people: “pilers” and “filers.” Sometimes “filers,” or folks who immediately return things to their place, end up becoming “pilers” because of lack of space. With or without an abundance of room, I have always been a pile person. Even though I live a relatively civilized type B existence I have always had one chair in my room that at any point can contain:
A stack of books I’m reading or recently put down
One or two journals, coloring book, colorful pen set
Entire outfits I changed my mind about at the last minute
A hat that I didn’t put away
Outfits I wore the day (or few days) before
Pajamas
Jeans that don’t fit
For the inaugural episode of Thanks for Listening! We have a special spooky treat. “Never Fear the Clothing Chair,” is an audio piece created from the prompts by Audio Flux, a home for independent audio, new voices, and big ideas in podcasting. Their brief was to create a 3-minute audio story (mine is 3:30 to be transparent) based on “firsts.” It also has to include the sound of time passing forwards or backward (without a clock) and a handwritten document that you can find in the show notes below.
Turns out sound editing is hard (obviously) but rewarding (go on)—so I’m looking forward to making more of these! We can climb cringe mountain together. I hope you enjoy it.
